What happens when one of the biggest payment systems in Paypal goes down for maintenance?

Well, browsing to Paypal to make a payment to a client today I noticed that the site is “down for maintenance”. Paypal is the biggest payment processor on the internet today and when something that big goes down a lot of people notice.

Here is the exact message from the Paypal site:
“****Scheduled Maintenance Notification****

We are performing maintenance on the PayPal site from 11:00 PM to 12:00 AM PDT. The PayPal site and a majority of our features will be unavailable during that time.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your business. Once the maintenance has been completed we will return to normal functionality.

Thank you,

PayPal Operations”

No website can be up 100 percent of the time. But, when a site many people rely on goes down for maintenance or for any other reason it is a huge inconvenience. I am not sure how many people Paypal services in an hour but think about how much money they will be loosing because someone gets pissed off that the service isn’t available and uses another payment processor.

Has Paypal being down tonight affected you in any way?

Have you heard the latest on the Holyfield foreclosure? A poor housing market in the US and owning a multi-million dollar home are a dangerous mix. The poor economy is one of the reasons why many people are feeling the pinch and being a celebrity doesn’t mean that you will not face this problem.

In the last couple months more then one celebrity has not been able to keep up with their mortgage payments. Ed McMahon, Latrell Sprewell, and Jose Canseco have faced headaches with paying for their homes. The lasted to ad the the list of down and out celebs is the Holyfield Foreclosure.

Holyfield reportedly has made 200 millions from his boxing career. How can these multi-millionaires not afford their house payments? I just think it boils down to their lavish lifestyles.

These celebrities spend way too much money. I have seen it a many times before. A once rich and famous person loses all their money and ends up either bankrupt or living a lifestyle way different then before. Can you imagine one day flying on private jets, taking exotic vacations, and eating the finest foods and the next day you have to live the life of an average American.

Can you prevent foreclosure in your own life?

The best way to prevent foreclosure is to live within your means. Don’t pull out the credit card every time you go shopping thinking you will pay it off later. Don’t buy a house or car that you can’t afford. Instead of going out to restaurants all the time stay in and cook your own meal. Clip coupons if you have to for christ’s sake. The major trick to prevent foreclosure is save as much money as you can when you can and when the economy is down in the dumps like it is today you will have enough money saved up so you don’t end up like this Holyfield foreclosure.

How will you prevent foreclosure?

The polaroid t730 compact 7mp digital camera is a hot camera. If you are a amateur photographer or a seasoned veteran looking to to take some great pictures this is the digital camera for you. The polaroid t730 compact 7mp digital camera comes in a few different colors to suit your needs. Just imagine if you go on vacation to an exotic location and you want to show your family what you saw with your own eyes. What better way to do that then take a lot of pictures with your digital camera.

One time I was on a fishing trip in Northern Minnesota. It was a beautiful summer day and was about mid afternoon. We were on the boat and didn’t have any luck for about the first 4 hours. After about 20 minutes of working a tree line with some overhang for bass I casted out my lure and got a huge hit. I fought with this fish for a long time and finally got it in the boat. It was a 23 inch small mouth! The problem is I am a catch and release fisherman but I couldn’t document my catch because no one had a digital camera with them.

Now, not a day goes by that I don’t think about how our group didn’t bring a digital camera with them so I could brag about my catch. Now, I am sure this has happened to more then one of you. Maybe you saw a beautiful sunset that you wanted to capture with your digital camera but you forgot it at home. How about a glimming rainbow you caught a quick view of after a rain storm but couldn’t capture it because you forgot your digital camera?

I took a photography class in college one semester and we didn’t need to purchase any fancy equipment. All that was required were our trusty digital cameras. Now, they didn’t take quite as good of pictures as more expensive equipment but they definitely got the job done.

I don’t think I know that many people that don’t have a digital camera now a days. They are convient and small and you can carry them with you anywhere you go. If you don’t already have a digital camera I suggest you buy one online because you can save a lot of money. The internet offers great deals on many electronics as apposed to going to your local retail stores and this includes deals on digital cameras.

In today’s world business mergers seem to be the norm. Large companies or corporations usually scoop up smaller businesses to expand their portfolios. Today there is big news in the wireless industry. Verizon Wireless is in negotiations to buyout Alltel Wireless.

What would a merger of this size do to the wireless industry?

If this deal ends up going through this new wireless giant would boast about 80 million wireless subscribers. The nearest competition would be AT&T with about 72 million. Now, deals like this don’t happen overnight and have to go through the hoops of an FCC approval. This can take months to happen.

This isn’t the first time Verizon Wireless has been interested in purchasing Alltel Wireless. About a year ago Alltel was put of for sale and Verizon was the front runner to buyout the company. But, Verizon determined that the purchase price was inflated and ended up backing out. Alltel was then purchased by private investors including TPG Capital and Goldman Sachs for a sum of 27.5 billion dollars.

A deal of this size would definitely turn the wireless industry on its head. A bidding war could also happen as other companies like Sprint, Deutsche Telekom, and Vodafone. The whole irony in this deal is Alltel Wireless has been buying up regional carriers for years. Most recently they purchased Midwest Wirelss adding 400,000 subscribers. Now, they potentially may be bought out.

Fox29 news out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania caught a group of police brutaly beating 3 suspects late Monday night. The police in Philadelphia are on edge after a botched robbery took the life of Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski.

The news crew caught about eleven minutes of the beating and the video shows about a minute of the conflict. The 3 suspects were reportedly involved in an unrelated shooting on Saturday. Mayor Nutter and Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey plan to launch a full investigation into the beatings. They both stated the killing of Liczbinski was a precursor to the beatings and used this as an excuse for the officers actions.

Ramsey will identify the officers in the video and then will take them all of of street duty in an effort to calm the situation in Philadelphia.

Scott Perrine, a defense lawyer said he would represent the 3 suspects at their bail hearings and stated these beatings are, “police conduct that should have stopped in the 1970s.” Perrine also stated that “This was one of the most reprehensible displays of police brutality I have ever seen.”

The 3 suspects may have been identified as Dwayne Dyches, Brian Hall and Pete Hopkins. All 3 men needed hospitalization over this incident, but police did not comment on their injuries or conditions.

The Philadelphia police can be seen repeatedly kicking and punching the suspects some wielding batons. No gun was found in the car in a search after the suspects were handcuffed and taken away. One this is certain, the Philadelphia police will have a civil lawsuit on their hands after the incidents of Monday night.
